Stay One Step Ahead of Shared Branch Fraud with IDCheck

Velera (formerly CO-OP) understands it’s crucial to help protect you from ID-based fraud. That’s why they are introducing a new ID verification measure for in-person visits to our Shared Branch locations. This new fraud prevention measure assists us in attempting to verify it is YOU trying to access your account, not an imposter. 

If you bank at one of our Shared Branch locations, a teller now has a tool to help identify and authenticate members with out-of-state IDs in the branch through a QR code and one-time passcode multi-factor authentication verification. This additional layer of authentication will be used for the purchase of official checks and cash withdrawals.  

How it Works:

1. Scan the QR code located in the branch or visit verify.coop.org. 
2. Select your credit union’s name from a drop-down list. 
3. Enter your full account number and the last four digits of your Social Security number. 
4. Upload a photo of your ID. 
5. Take a selfie. 

Tip: Save your validation for an even quicker experience next time! 

6. Show your one-time passcode to the teller (passcode is valid for 20 minutes).

IDCheck is a new identity security and authentication tool, specifically designed for the Co-op Shared Branch network, that helps credit unions try to verify the identity of individuals during shared branching transactions in an attempt to reduce fraud.

As of May 1, 2025, all credit unions in the CO-OP Shared Branch network will be required to use IDCheck to try to verify the identity of individuals using an out-of-state ID attempting withdrawal transactions (including the purchase of official checks). This requirement is aimed at addressing the most prevalent area where we observe ID-based fraud, which is with out-of-state IDs. 

A visiting member scans a QR code using their smart phone or smart device.

A smart device (phone or tablet) is required for this service.

The member would need to go through the verification process again since IDCheck associates the verification with the device.

The member would need to go through the verification process again with an unexpired ID.

Although a military ID is a valid ID in the teller line, military IDs are not supported in IDCheck due to federal prohibitions. IDCheck will reject a military ID.
