How to Get the Most Out of Boost Checking
Chances are if you’re reading this, you’ve either heard about or currently have a Boost Interest Checking account. Either way, we wanted to dive deeper into the three requirements you need to earn 4.50% APY on balances of up to $25,000. As you’ll see, the ability to earn the highest interest rate is actually simpler than you might think.
1. Make 15 debit card purchases per month
After researching Bellco debit card usage, we found that on average, Bellco members use their debit card 25 times per month. So, using your Boost debit card 15 times should be a breeze. In fact, you don’t have to physically use your debit card as long as your purchase is connected to your debit card. For instance, if you use Apple Pay™, Google Pay™ or PayPal® to make payments, those count. Online web services such as Amazon and eBay also accept payments linked to debit card accounts, so those would also count towards your monthly 15 purchase requirements. (ATM transactions do not count).
2. Log in to Online or Mobile Banking at least once per month
More and more people use Online Banking to manage their checking account. For some, it’s a daily glance. For others, it’s a full monthly reconciliation. Knowing the status of your checking account balance is important. Mobile and online banking can help you keep track quickly and easily. And you only need to do it once a month to meet this requirement for earning the 4.50% APY.
3. Have at least one direct-deposit transaction per month
Most payroll is in the form of direct deposit. If you make at least one direct deposit per month to your Boost Checking account, you’ve met this requirement. Trust us, your employer won’t mind you making the change and your wallet will be thankful for it. Once you open the checking account, you will have everything you need to set up the direct deposit.
Plus, no minimum balance required means you could have anywhere from $1 to $25,000 in your Boost account to earn 4.50% APY. We’ll even pay a lower interest rate on balances over $25,000 or in months where you don’t meet the requirements. Most other interest checking accounts have more restrictive balance thresholds to earn the highest interest rates.

Medicare Annual Enrollment Period is Here
By MedicareCU
If you’re 65 or over, now is the time to schedule your coverage review with Medicare CU. Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period is from October 15–December 7. This is the one time of year that everyone can make adjustments and changes to their Medicare coverage.
Bellco has teamed up with MedicareCU to provide dedicated, licensed Medicare agents to help guide Bellco members through the changes coming to Medicare in 2025. Need help? Simply book an appointment with one of MedicareCU’s licensed agents. You can choose in-person, at your preferred Bellco branch, over the phone, or via Zoom appointment—whatever is most convenient for you.
There are a number of changes beginning January 1, 2025. If there was ever a time to check on how these changes will impact your costs and coverage, this is a critical year to review. The following is a quick summary of some of these changes that will impact coverage beginning next year:
Sweeping Changes to Medicare Prescription Drug Plans in 2025
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that administers the Medicare program, announced sweeping changes to Medicare Prescription Drug plans for 2025.
Many of these updates are a direct result of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, a landmark United States federal law, which had a key provision to lower the cost of prescription drug prices.
Part D Prescription Drug Cost Share has been streamlined to 3 phases:
- Annual Deductible – In 2025, the deductible will be $590 (some plans will have a $0 deductible). You pay 100% of drug costs until deductible is met.
- Initial Coverage – 25% co-insurance on medicine costs until your costs reach $2,000.
- Catastrophic Coverage – $0 medicine costs.
Medicare is capping your out-of-pocket costs for prescription medicines at $2,000 in 2025—this is a game changer!
Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (M3P):
For the first time, Medicare will allow you to pay your out-of-pocket prescription medicine costs in monthly amounts spread throughout the 2025 plan year, rather than paying your full cost share at the pharmacy. With this program, you will pay the carrier directly through a monthly bill/payment plan. And you will pay nothing at the pharmacy. Medicare enrollees should contact their carrier directly to enroll in the program before January 1, 2025, after you have enrolled in your 2025 Medicare plan.
Enrollees can opt out of the program at any time. However, they will continue to be billed monthly for any cost-sharing amounts still owed.
Failure to pay will result in disenrollment from the prescription payment program (not the plan) after a specified grace period. Once an enrollee leaves the program, they will resume their out-of-pocket cost sharing at the pharmacy.
What counts towards the $2,000 maximum out-of-pocket?
Any money spent during the deductible and initial coverage stages will apply. Premiums for prescription drug plans will NOT apply.
As a result of this change, plans will modify their formularies, so it is important to re-examine your prescription drug coverage and make sure your medicines are on the plan formulary.
Remember, Annual Enrollment Period is October 15–December 7. You can set up an appointment beginning October 1 to look at new plan costs and formularies. All of the new changes will take effect beginning January 1, 2025.
